scar 16s review

Scar 16s Review - The SCAR 16s is a civilian-derived version of the SCAR L. The SCAR-style rifle is designed to be adaptable to various special forces units in the United States and around the world. The design is very different from the AR15 series of rifles. They eliminated some of the compromises that the AR 15 had to deal with. However, I do not intend to write this article to compare SCAR and AR 15. That is a completely different topic. This is designed to evaluate the platform on its own merits.

The SCAR 16S is an impressive rifle, but it is also an expensive rifle. The decision to purchase a rifle of this caliber is rarely taken lightly. FN specifications for the SCAR series here.

Scar 16s Review

The SCAR 16s is one of the best looking rifles to hit the market in a long time. Style only goes so far on a rifle. I think it's worth commenting that the SCAR series of rifles is extremely popular in movies and video games because it's a good looking rifle. My test model was at FDE and the fit and finish were spectacular. Everything looks great right out of the box. Even the magazine is FDE.

The SCAR is a lightweight semi-automatic rifle that uses a short-stroke gas piston. As a result, the weapon runs extremely clean and relatively cool. My first impression of the rifle is that this thing is very light. It's not the lightest rifle out of the box, but when you consider the fact that it's essentially a quad rail, it's pretty light. Compared to my 556R, it's like a feather. The rifle is very well balanced with most of the weight in the center of the rifle.

The stock looks like a Ugg boot, but it works like a champ. Now you will never see Ugg boots again. Actions do three separate things. First, it failed, like any modern good stock. This makes it easy to adapt the rifle for armor or web gear. Then it folds. This makes the rifle much easier to move around. During Hurricane Hermine, the SCAR 16S was easily carried in a discreet bag. At least until we get to the final destination to get through it all. The collapsible grip also makes it much easier to deploy weapons from the vehicle in a tactical situation. In the end, the stock rallied. After all, not all optical devices have the same height.

The lower collector is polymer. This reduces weight but still allows the weapon to maintain structural strength. The stock is in the standard M16A2 style, comfortable and easy to mass produce. It's also a military-proven grip size for all hand sizes. Safety is simple, S for safety and 1 for one shot. It is also ambidextrous. Gun manufacturers are taking note. This is how you go ambi on a rifle. Look at you CZ.

Next, we have the magazine issue. It is also ambidextrous. The number of publications of the magazine is also quite large. Very easy to turn on. It is strongly plaid and is easily felt in the dark. Even with gloves on, the magazine release is easy to touch and activate with both hands.

Screw release is not bidirectional. Surprisingly, loosening the ambi screws is not necessary. The charging handle is an easier way to remove the latch.

Trigger is where the rifle is made. For a semi-automatic defensive rifle, pulling the trigger is certainly acceptable. First and foremost, the activation is very well done. Traction is standard military weight, not a feather. However, activation is clean. Trigger break is perfect. Non-granular and non-porous. Activation is clean. The reset is easy to hear and feel. If Glock perfected the pistol reset to tactile and sonic reset, SCAR has done it for rifles.

The most obvious feature on the SCAR 16's upper receiver is the latch handle. The latch handle is not really ambidextrous. It can be easily changed for left- or right-handed users. The bolt handle recoils when fired. Some see this as a drawback, but I don't see it as such. This could be my experience with the AK rig. With the magnified optics, I could certainly find it a bit more difficult to hold the weapon. You can hit your knuckles depending on where your scope drops.

I placed the red dot in the center of the viewfinder, just above the charging handle. Regardless of the grip, I scratched my tiny wrist while quickly reloading my weapon. This was remedied by placing a red dot on the back of the viewfinder. The full length top rail is one piece. This makes it easy to attach different optics to the weapon. This includes the primary optics, magnifier or night vision, or heat clamp on the device.

One thing I hate is when high end rifles don't come with scopes from the factory. In particular, the SCAR 16s comes with a great pair of collapsible viewfinders. They are well made and feature two large traditional A2 openings. They are very easy to adjust and at zero.

The SCAR 16s is a modern rifle. Accordingly, it is covered by a picatinny rail. The front has plenty of room for any accessory you can imagine. The four-seat rail makes room for a flashlight, a laser light, a front vertical stand, or anything else you want to hang on your rifle.

At the end of the barrel, you have a pretty impressive muzzle. It certainly makes the gun a lot louder. It also effectively reduces recoil and raises the muzzle quite well. Brakes are impressive. The tube is very thin. I believe this was done to keep the weapon light with the 16 inch barrel.

At the top end of the barrel there is a gas regulator. The throttle is adjusted for normal and adverse conditions. The normal position is the 12 o'clock position. The 10 o'clock position is for triggering the suppressor. This is a nice touch, especially as the use of sound suppressors becomes more and more common.

Dismantling is actually quite simple. It's different but extremely simple. I was able to turn it off completely without instructions. It's that simple. It is free and easy tool to do in the field. The weapon only breaks into a few pieces, as seen here.

Carbine FN SCAR 16S earns a premium: My AR is one of my favorite rifles in my collection, so I spent some time reviewing the FN Scar 16S until I had a chance to shoot it. . It's certainly more expensive, but I've discovered why special forces in the US military love using it.

For starters, some of the best things about the FN SCAR 16S are the larger features. The fire selector and magazine are large enough to be easily used with gloves and I highly recommend wearing them as the Scar heats up pretty quickly.

The good news is, even after 100 rounds of testing, I haven't encountered a single issue of misfires, jams, or magazine loading no matter how hot it gets. I also like that the trigger guard is large enough to hold gloves because they knew how hot it would be when they designed it.

All of those features are designed for ambidextrous use, but they didn't hinder me when shooting. I would say that the charging grip can clip your finger to the lens if you're not careful, but that wasn't an issue after the first time for me.

As for taking pictures, I'm in love with it. I got 2" at 100 yards, and that didn't change much at 300 or even 400 yards, although I had to use the viewfinder on those targets. Then I realized the gap between the charging handles.

One thing that stands out is that the scar is easy to separate and clean, as I did it in just a few minutes. I can also adjust the folding neck and cheeks
