If there was a gun that exceeded expectations when we rounded up the best guns of 2022, it was the Taurus G3X. We shot a series of new full-size, compact, and submachine guns, and when the dust settled, the G3X was the standout gun in the entire test group.

This compact 9mm is a simple and inexpensive pistol, designed to compete with the Glock G19 (which has a lot of impact). It's a polymer-framed pistol that comes with two 15-round magazines. Out of about 20 guns, the Taurus G3X stood out the most when we first shot it. We found it to be accurate, reliable and easy to shoot - even compared to other guns that were more expensive.
We shot about 350 different rounds of ammo through the Taurus G3X and all performed reliably. We used 115-grain loads from Federal Premium and US Cartridge, Hornady Black 124-grain XTP Defense loads, Winchester 147-grain FMJ and even 147-grain Nosler ASP Defense loads – all without a hiccup. We rode the G3X hard and occasionally gave it a CLP with slide rails and a barrel for lube.
The grip and frame contours make the gun easy to shoot and hang. In terms of performance, the Taurus G3X punches above its weight class. Recoil action is smooth for a compact 9mm, and the gun is easy to control during rapid fire and transition between targets. After two days of warming up the gun, we were very happy with it. It ran perfectly and everything was still tight at the end of the process.

The Taurus G3X does just what a compact, polymer-built 9mm pistol is supposed to do. Shooting and shooting faithfully at a great price. We weren't sure if we'd see a performance gap because of the price, and we're happy to say we didn't.
We had no complaints about the performance, but a neat serial number engraved on the slide and barrel would have made the gun look much cleaner, and the optic cut would have been icing on the cake. .
Sometimes low price means cheap, and low prices mean you're sacrificing a lot of quality. This was not the feeling we got from the Taurus G3X. The sample we received held its own against more expensive guns. In some ways, it was more fun to shoot than its competitors. You usually get what you pay for, but with the Taurus G3X you get something extra.
